Butler Funeral Home was founded in 1943 by Donald M. Butler, Sr. and his wife Marjorie Butler in 1943. There originally funeral home was in Center, Kentucky but burned and they did not rebuild. When they purchased the present location in Edmonton most deaths were taken care of in the homes. They would go to the home and do embalming and then take a casket for the deceased loved one if the community didn't have a casket maker. The Butler Family also had an ambulance service that serviced the community, and they ended in 1976. They had one of the first telephones in Metcalfe County and would take calls for people in the community and deliver messages. Butler Funeral Home had a hot line that when someone called for a fire truck the call came to the funeral home and the Butlers would sound the alarm that could be heard for miles around. Volunteer fireman would respond, and the call was passed on with the information on location of the incident. Don and Marjorie had two children who grew up in the funeral Home. Don M. Butler II and Nancy. Growing up they assisted with the duties of the funeral home. After school Don M. Butler II "Donnie" joined the Army and served in Viet Nam. Upon his return he took over the management roll. Don Sr. and Marjorie both stayed active until their deaths. Butler Funeral Home remains proudly family owned.
