Velma R Janes

Velma Rae (Thurman) Cawthorn Janes age 95, of Edmonton Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Metcalfe Health Care Center in Edmonton. Mrs. Janes was born on Monday, January 2, 1928, to Hayden and Hettie (Hurt) Thurman.

Mrs. Janes was a member of Grace Union Baptist Church, being saved at the age of 16. She retired from Metcalfe County High School as a school cook. She loved to go fishing and yard selling.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband's Haskel Cawthorn and William Janes; daughter, Rita Cawthorn; brother, Lowell Thurman; sisters, Betty Scott, Vera Cawthorn, Thelma Garmon.

She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Spradlin (Chester) of Edmonton and Connie Turner of Bowling Green; Grandchildren, Gary Spradlin of Franklin, Jason Spradlin (Becky) of Edmonton, Melissa Spradlin of Edmonton, Scott Geralds (Tiffany) of Bowling Green, Christopher Geralds of Bowling Green, Kari Castelli (Don) of Illinois; Several Great Grandchildren; one special niece, Louise Page of Edmonton.

The funeral for Mrs. Janes will be conducted on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Butler Funeral Home with the Hon. Nick Fields officiating. Burial will follow in the New Liberty Cemetery in Edmonton, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 23, 2023, after 5:00 P.M. and again on Sunday after 8:00 A.M. until the service hour. Butler Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Janes.
