Mary Simmons

Mary Helen Castlen Simmons, 84, of Calhoun, Kentucky, formerly of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro. She was born March 24, 1927 in Owensboro, KY to the late Joseph W. Castlen and Eloda Mary Bryant Castlen. She was retired from Kentucky Electronics and was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Herman Simmons, a granddaughter, Amy Wheeler, 3 brothers, Ralph Castlen, Charles Castlen and Joseph W. Castlen, Jr. 2 sisters, Bertha Duncan Stephens and Jane Akers. Surviving is a son, Thomas 'Tom' Teresa Simmons of Jeffersonville, IN, 3 daughters, Benita Bill Spalding of Charlestown, IN, Debbie Addington of Owensboro and Cecelia Lyn Wheeler of Cadiz, 4 grandchildren, Angela Spalding Munoz, Stacy Wheeler, Chris Addington and Natalie Addington; a great-granddaughter, Victoria Munoz and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 10:00 am Friday, September 2, 2011 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Father John Meredith officiating. Visitation will be at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00pm Thursday and 8:00 to 9:30 am Friday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said at 6:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Joseph Peace Mission. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
