Kevin Wahl

July 30, 1964 — September 5, 2021

Kevin James Wahl, son of the late John R. Wahl and Rita (Gervais) Wahl, died Sunday, September 5, 2021 from COVID-19 at the age of 57. He is survived by his wife Melissa (Mihalek) Wahl and his son Samuel; his brothers, John D ("Danny") Wahl of Richmond, NH, and Michael Wahl of Sterling, MA, as well as his sister, Donna (Wahl) Sadkowski of Milford, NH. Kevin served in the United States Air Force from 1982 to 1984 when he left to attend college but continued to serve in the Air National Guard for many years. Kevin became a Deputy US Marshal in 1989 after graduating college with a degree in Criminal Justice and worked in the Boston and Worcester offices in Massachusetts. He retired from the Marshals Service in 2014 after twenty-five years when he and his family moved to Edmonton, KY. He then began working at the Child Protection Branch of the Cabinet for Health and Welfare of the State of Kentucky as an investigator of reports of child abuse. As shared by many of his co-workers in both positions, Kevin had an amazing way of de-escalating potentially dangerous situations by speaking to people in a calm, non-threatening manner. When doing child abuse investigations, he was always respectful of the people he was contacting and reassuring them that what was best for the children was his goal. He enjoyed movies and movie quotes which could be dropped at a moment's notice in any conversation. He loved music and British television and all the pets he and his wife had on their little farm, as well as military vehicles of which he owned many over the years. He also enjoyed metal detecting with his son and had some incredible finds including a very rare pre-Revolutionary War "No Stamp Act" button. But more than anything he loved his family. His wife of thirty-two years, Melissa, was recently described as the "sparkle in his eye". They completed each other's sentences and were just the perfect couple. And he could not be more proud of his son Sam who he would brag about to anyone who would listen. A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, September 10, 2021. Butler Funeral Home is both honored to be entrusted to the care of Mr. Wahl. Please share your messages of condolence with the family at www.butlermemorials.com.
