Haskel Kermit Whitlow
Louisville - KY, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024
Born in Edmonton, KY on March 23, 1942, Haskel was the son of the late Luther and Drusella Shives Whitlow. He graduated from Metcalf County High School in 1960 and soon moved to Louisville where started a career with International Harvester that spanned two decades. He later started a life-long career in Insurance starting with Commonwealth Insurance and then later transitioning to become an insurance broker with Logan Lavelle Insurance and Heritage Insurance. In the late 1970’s and into the 1980’s Haskel volunteered as a youth baseball coach at Okolona Little League.
Haskel grew up on a farm and continued the tradition of gardening all of his adult life, you could always count on the gift of tomatoes, squash, and zucchini in the summer. There were two things he always liked to discuss, the stock market and UK Basketball, he was an avid follower of stock market activities and all things UK Basketball.
Haskel is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Whitlow, and sister Rena Bell Duncan.
He is survived by sons Kevin (Abigail) Whitlow and Tony (Ami) Whitlow; grandchildren Austin, Lilli, Luci, Luke, and Arden Whitlow; and an ex-wife Linda Whitlow, sister Joan Whitlow, cousin/neighbor/great friend Lena Cook, neighbors and great friends Joyce and Truman McMahan, and cherished friend Normal Sweet.
Haskel was a born again Christian and was a member of Okolona Christian Church, where he served for years as part of the Sunday morning service security team.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers and staff at The Grand Memory Care Cottage and The Springs at Oldham Reserve for their care and treatment of Haskel in his last years as the affects of Alzheimer’s took its toll on his mind and body. In his last years, Haskel referred to himself and was affectionately known as “Haskel the Raskel” by all those who cared for him. The family would also like to thank the many wonderful nurses, staff and social worker with Hosparus of Louisville for the excellent care, concern, and counsel they provided in the last months of his life, especially Kate, Cori, and Ashley.
The family of Mr. Haskel Kermit Whitlow will receive friends on Saturday, January 06, 2024 from 12:00 noon till 2:00 p.m. C.S.T. Mr. Haskel will be laid to rest near his parents at Missionary Mound in Edmonton, KY immediately following the visitation.
