Gary Lawrence Richardson,79 of the Randolph Community passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Apri1 1, 2025, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow. Gary was born December 23, 1945, to the late Albert Lawrence Richardson, who was killed during WWII on Luzon Island, Philippines (before Gary was born) and the late Ollie Mae Barrett Richardson. Gary was raised by his mother (Ollie Mae) with the help and love of his grandparents Vervin (I.V.) and Effie (Witty) Barrett in which Gary loved being a part of the family farm all of his life.

Gary attended all twelve years in Metcalfe County School System graduating in 1963 as Salutatorian of his class. He attended David Lipscomb College and obtained his master’s degree from Western Kentucky University. Gary began his teaching career teaching at Metcalfe County School system. He was not only a teacher to many students, but an assistant coach to the Metcalfe County High Boys Basketball team, first Metcalfe County Girls Basketball Coach (1974-1992), Athletic Director, Metcalfe County Principal and Metcalfe County Superintendent. Gary wore many hats during his career. He always wanted to encourage and uplift the students anyway possible. After retirement he was employed and worked many years at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton. He was appointed Deputy Coroner and served in this capacity for several years before deciding to retire a second time. Gary and Martha enjoyed collecting antiques and we're avid UK Fans. 

Gary was a member of the South Edmonton church of Christ in which he preached his first sermon at the age of sixteen and his last sermon in November 2023. He preached in many congregations throughout south central Kentucky, baptized many into Christ and has officiated many weddings and officiated funerals giving loving and comforting words to many families. Gary was a kind and compassionate man who never met a stranger. 

Gary is survived by his wife and soulmate Martha (Cook) Richardson, having gone on their first date August 3, 1969. They were married August 9, 1970. Gary and Martha never had biological children but have claimed many as their own. Special Son – Jason P. Botts; Special Granddaughter – Saylor Morgan Botts; Special Grandson – Brayden Bartley Botts; Special Son – Charlie Harbison (Monica); Special Daughter – Denise Fudge (Mark) and Special Daughter Jan Moulden, Special Companion Mishia and Sister and Brother-in-law – Nancy (Cook) and Stephen Botts and many cousins.

Funeral services for Gary will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 7th in the chapel of Butler Funeral Home with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 till 8:00 PM, Sunday, April 6th at the funeral home and after 8:00 AM Monday until time of the service. 

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.
