Charles H. Shirley, age 88 of Edmonton, passed away peacefully at his home in Edmonton surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 24th, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Atkins Shirley, three daughters, Lorrie Gilpin and Charlene Keys of Edmonton, Rita (John) Brown of Glasgow, 6 grandchildren, Erik, Jessi and Laura Brown, Lindsey and Andrew Gilpin, Ashley (John Fred) Young, one great-granddaughter, McCartney Scout Young, one sister, Ida Scott of Fairplay, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Will and Lucille Knight Shirley, five brothers, Clifton, John Will, Edwin, Curt and Rollin Shirley, four sisters, Alberta Knight, Elizabeth Shirley, Dora Partyka, and Irene Bell. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War. He moved back to Edmonton in 1959 and started his barber career which spanned more than 50 years. He retired at the age of 84. He was a faithful member of the South Edmonton Church of Christ, where he served as a teacher, song leader and deacon for many years. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 28th at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the South Edmonton Church of Christ Building Fund.
