Allene Fraser

January 27, 1924 — June 13, 2016

Fraser, Allene Henderson 92, of Edmonton passed away June 13, 2016 at Metcalfe Healthcare Center under the care of Hospice after an extended illness. She is survived by her son, Michael (Margaret) Fraser, daughters, Jane Marrs and Blakey (Nelson) Pott; eight grandchildren, Laura Wyttenbach, Russell Fraser, Amanda Marrs Hurley, Scott Marrs, Nick Pott, Darin Pott, Blair Pott and Kolby Pott; fifteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers as well as John (Heepie) Marrs Jr., John (Muff) Marrs II and Molly Fraser Marrs. Allene was born January 27, 1924 in Greensburg, Ky. to L.M. and Ruth Henderson. She moved to Edmonton as the young bride of Russell Fraser, who preceded her in death in 2000. They were married 55 years. She was a member of Edmonton Baptist Church. She was very community minded and established the Girl Scouts in Edmonton and was a founding board member of the Metcalfe County Nursing Home (currently Metcalfe Healthcare Center). She was a member of the Metcalfe County Homemakers, Garden Club, and one of the original members of the Greensburg Art Club, having been a member for over 50 years. She had so many varied interests and talents but especially enjoyed the arts, knitting, needlework, crossword puzzles and traveling. Her greatest passion was painting. She started painting at the age of 9 years and sold her first work when she was 24. She was an inspiration, an ardent supporter and encourager through the years, ready to "critique" the works of fellow artists when asked and to offer praise (unasked). After attending art classes at Western State College (currently Western Kentucky University), Allene continued developing her talents and skills - attending workshops conducted by well known artists such as Daniel Greene, Ray Harm, Joseph Fettingis and Andrew Wyeth. She taught art classes privately and publicly. Her paintings have been displayed in state buildings and businesses throughout southern Kentucky. Many have been purchased by Kentucky Historical Societies. No formal arrangements have been made at this time. There will be a family celebration of life memorial scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, consider making a contribution in her memory to the Edmonton Public Library or the charity of choice. Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton is in charge of arrangements.
